The Black Marsh Nature Trail, a 5.5km return walk marked with 25 bilingual interpretive panels explaining the fascinating points of interest found along its length. Walk through a wind-blown forest, past striking red capes, and across a huge, open bog. Get a sense of the huge power of an 80-metre windmill as you wander underneath it. You may see here a huge diversity of wildlife: from seabirds to dragonflies, butterflies, and even an eagle far in the sky. However, if you pay close attention as you walk along the wooden construct through the bog, taking a look at the ground, you may actually find a couple of very rare plants—small, beautiful orchids, and even some carnivorous ones. Quite an arresting view: the rugged but utterly appealing, unique ecology of this area. On Elephant Rock history and geology of the area, check the following very informative links. It was a very important beacon against a dangerous reef. Gear up—with everything from your hiking boots to binoculars—for an adventure in which, around every twist and turn, there lies a new discovery.
